Good morning, good brother. My prayers that you are having an excellent Monday morning. So we're jumping right into week two of our series dealing with lust for this season, season three for our men's devotional here at Word of God Christian Center, as our focus is truly on marriage and family and love. And so for those who may not know, again, I am Larry Cummings. I serve as one of the elders here at Word of God Christian Center, and I'm excited to give you what I believe is information directly from God's heart to yours. And so we are continuing week two as we discuss lust and what is lust, the power of lust, but also understanding lust uh in a practical way. Now, I remember I, my wife and I, we had our first child, my daughter Dakota. And I remember us coming home the very first day after she was born. My wife had an incredibly uh tough pregnancy and even birth uh experience. My wife was uh almost died on the birthing table. My daughter was in the NICU or the uh infant ICU uh for several days. And so I remember being disheartened, and it was obviously a tough, tough experience. And so I remember we were coming home, bringing my daughter home for the very first time. And like any father, especially a new father, you are on heightened alert. And so as we were going through, and I was pushing my wife in the uh wheelchair through the hospital, down through the lobby, to our front uh door, to the front car, or to the car at the front, I remember just being on heightened alert. I was looking at everything, everyone, because my wife was in the wheelchair. I was pushing her, and she was holding my daughter, my brand new baby girl. So everything uh is a threat or are perceived as a threat. So if someone's walking up close, uh, you know, I'm I'm heightened. Uh if a door closes too loudly, I'm I'm heightened. Why? Because I'm really alert and I'm really watching over on guard for my family. And that's one of the things the Bible tells us as men is to be watchful and to stand on guard, to be at the ready. It's a military term that we know that we have to be in position as watchmen to know and perceive a threat before it arises. So I have to be ready. I have to be watchful, I have to be alert as a man. The Bible tells us in different places, uh, 1 Peter 5, verse 8, and it says, Stay alert, watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he can devour. But it tells us to stand firm against the devil and be strong in the faith. Uh, 1 Corinthians 16, 13 and 14, my favorite scriptures for men. And it says, be on guard, stand firm, or be watchful and stand firm in the faith, be courageous, or be strong, act like men and be strong and do everything with love. This is an encouragement for you as a man to be watchful, to be uh faithful, to stand firm, to act like a man. A man is someone who is alert. A man isn't someone who lays idly aside while his family is being attacked. A man is not one who does nothing to stand against the enemy who's trying to devour his family. What about Ephesians 6 and 10? One of the most famous scriptures or passages in the Bible, because it talks about the putting on the full armor. And I'm excited for Rick gave us the coin of the full armor of God, but it says in verse 10, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might or in his mighty power. And it tells us to put on uh the armor of God so that we will be able to stand firm against the strategies of the devil, against the tricks, the schemes of the devil, to be able to stand firm. So the Bible constantly encourages men to stand firm in your faith, to be watchful as a husband, as a father. But there's one particular instance where the Bible tells men not to stand firm. Let's look here in 1 Corinthians, excuse me, chapter 6, verse 18, and even in 2 Timothy chapter 2 verse 22. This instance where it tells men not to stand firm, but it tells men to run, and that's when it comes to sexual immorality, to lust. The Bible tells men not to stand firm against lust or sexual immorality, but to run. Oh, you are alert over your family. But when it comes to sexual immorality, when it comes to lust, run. It tells us to run. Why? Because we know that that sin easily trips up, especially men. Because that sin is hard to fight against, it's easier to remove yourself than it is to stay and try to fight it. That word, the original word for run is flee. In the Greek, it means uh like a prisoner escaping or running away from being captured, telling you to run with all passion, run away as quickly as you can. What does that mean? That may mean to run away instead of trying to stand firm and fight. No, you cannot just sit there and watch porn all day and be righteous. No, you can't be tempted uh from I from Instagram and Facebook and still want to live a righteous life. If you want to live righteously, you have to run from lust. So that's my encouragement from you, brother. Don't stand firm against lust. Run. My brother, I love you. God bless you, and we'll talk soon again next week. Take care.
