A biblical exploration into what it means to be emotionally fit with Joseph Wimbush.
Good morning, brothers. Welcome back to week four of our men's devotional. I am Brother Joseph Wimbush from the Word of God Christian Center, and I will be completing my segment on emotional fitness. Amen. Let's get started. Today we will cover six courses of actions to help you master your emotions. Amen. Six courses of actions to help you master your emotions. It's the acronym Actions. A C T I O N. Action. Number one, starting with the letter A. Acknowledge the emotion. Acknowledge the emotions. Don't try to deny or suppress your emotions. Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 26 and 38, My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. He didn't hide his emotion. He was scared. He knew what awaited him on that cross. But he said, Not my will be done, but your will be done. Amen. Denying and suppressing your emotions can cause physical illnesses and add to your emotional load you are already carrying. Amen. Number two, the letter C. Consider why you have that emotion. Again, consider why you have that emotion. After you have acknowledged a feeling, it's important to understand why you are experiencing that emotion. Sometimes an event occurs several hours or even days before and is still in your subconscious, causing an emotional reaction. Identifying and identifying the underlying cause of an emotion is a big step toward mastering your reaction to that emotion. Amen. Number three, the letter T. Thank God that He will help you master the emotions. Thank him. Thank God that He will help you master the emotion. Whether or not you can identify the cause of your emotion, you can always thank God that He will help you master it. Amen. If He brought you to it, He'll bring you through it. 1 Thessalonians 5 and 18. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8 and 28. And we know that, and we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Amen. Number four. Number four, the letter I identify the biblical response to the emotion. Identify the biblical response to that emotion. Although emotions are spontaneous, the actions they produce don't have to be. Can someone really make you angry and make you respond respond inappropriately? Can he make you say the wrong things? Think the wrong thoughts? No matter what may have caused the incident, the choice of how you respond is yours. You can sin in that response or you can honor God. Amen. Luke 6 and 6 and 27 through 28 reads, But to you who are but to you who are willing to listen, I say, Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who hurt you. Philippians 4, 6 through 7. Don't worry about anything. Instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for everything that He's already done. Then you will experience God's peace, which far exceeds anything we can ever understand. His peace will guard your heart, your mind as you live in Christ Jesus. Amen. Number five, the letter O. Obey the Holy Spirit leading. Obey the Holy Spirit's leading. Natural and worldly persons want to do what their emotion, mind, or will tells them. But a spiritual person, a spiritual person obey a higher call to do what the Holy Spirit reveals. Jesus' solution, Jesus' solution for many emotional responses was to command an action rather than a response, a feeling. A feeling. Amen. You can change your feelings by changing your actions. Just that simple. You can change your feelings by changing your actions. Acting lovely towards someone, even if you don't feel like doing so, is the essence of love. The Holy Spirit will help you with this. Amen. Anyone operating in the mindset of Christ will walk in wisdom and not in their feelings. Amen. Number six. Number six. The letter N. Nurture the appropriate fruit of the Spirit. Nurture the appropriate fruit of the Spirit. Well, let's list the fruits of the Spirit, which can be found in Galatians 5, 22, and 23. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things. Amen. Each fruit of the spirit is more than an emotion. Each fruit of the spirit is more than an emotion. Each is a stable trait of character. You develop each by having a close relationship with Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit and by growing in maturity through experience. Emotional fitness requires humility and a willingness to take responsibilities for your emotions. Amen. Maintaining emotional fitness is an ongoing proactive practice. It involves being resilient, positive, and focused, allowing the Holy Spirit to change your mindset from anger, anxiety, jealousy, fear, and any other negative emotions. Brothers, brothers, we need a kingdom mindset. Again, I've said this before. We need a kingdom mindset. We also need the mind of Christ. We need the mind of Christ. Amen. Well, look, brothers, that's all I have. I hope that you got something out of the teaching, that it brought some a lot, brought some light to uh this emotional fitness. Um, I'm hoping we'll be we'll be able to better recognize and cope with some of life challenges uh dealing with uh our emotions. Prepare yourself for next week. Next week we start another segment. Amen. A brand new segment. I thank you for your time and your patience and your participation. God bless you, and we'll see you again next week.
